MY OLD FATHERLAND

My old fatherland
How many fathers did you send
Into the war?

Some loose their legs
Some loose their arms
Some loose their minds instead

A boy is crying
A girl is crying
Sisters, mothers, fathers dying

The butcher's dead
The grocer's mad
The baker's son lost his dad

A Man without a face
Neigbour in two halves
Too much blood and too less grace

My old fatherland
How many fathers did you send
Into the war?

My dear motherland
How could your mothers let
Their children die

Falling bombs
Fallen men
Fallen angles, fallen brains

A boy is dying
A girl is dying
A farmer, king, a beggar's dying

We put our guns
They put their guns
And everybodys gun is humming

My old fatherland…
