GOODBYE MY LOVE

I woke up
It was very hot
Opened my eyes
But still it was dark

Breathed
Muggy air
Breathed once more
Almost nothing breathable there

And while the cemetery gardeners scooped some soil
Into the grave, no one could hear the noise
Of knocks on wood coming out of the vault
Of shouting for life down in the tomb

And the cemetery gardeners
Scooped some soil
The cemetery gardeners
Moved some spoil

Tried to stand up
Banged my head
On something hard
Fell back

Onto a silky pad
I realized
That was not my bed
And you were not on my side

I groped about
Found a match
Looked around
Felt so cramped

Crud
Trickled in my face
I found your chit
Could read your words

And while the cemetery gardeners scooped some soil

Could read your words
But could not understand
I lost my nerve
Tasting sand

Goodbye my love
I hate you so
Good luck in your grave
Where I bedded you

And while the cemetery gardeners scooped some soil
